Conservation District Cooperator The Wexford Conservation District is currently looking for recipients for our new Cooperator Signs. These are available free of charge to anyone who signs a Cooperator Agreement with the District. In this agreement a landowner promises to conserve the natural resources on their property by the proper utilization and management of their forest land. Every land owner must complete a Resource Plan. These signs will be given to display proudly for friends and neighbors to see. Contact our office if you are interested. Tom Williams, our District Forester, also serves the Manistee Conservation District along with the Mason/Lake Conservation District. He is a state certified plan writer who assists land owners in writing Resource Plans, Forest Stewardship Plans and American Tree Farm Plans. Why create a management plan? There are many reasons depending on your ambitions. With management plans, goals and future hopes for your property are put in writing for yourself and those who may have interest in it. You may plant food plots or habitat for wildlife, improve a watershed or river bank, or have a long term timber harvest plan. A plan is beneficial to anyone who works on or may some day own your property such as a timber producer or your children. Your objectives and goals will be communicated to them in a clear and definite way. Resource Plans address only certain resources such as a food plot or a stand of trees. These are simple to write and easy to understand. Only the landowner and the plan writer have these plans. American Tree Farm Plans and Forest Stewardship Plans are more detailed and cover various resources found on a landowners property. These long term plans contain soil surveys and detailed maps They must be approved by a certified plan writer such as Tom Williams and submitted to a state agency to record. Forest Stewardship Plan Template - This will assist a landowner in the beginning process of writing a plan. Once the landowner has completed as much as he/she is able, a certified plan writer should be contacted to complete the process.
