The Groundwater Stewardship Program provides information and assessment tools for pesticide and nitrogen fertilizer users which help them identify risks to groundwater and to coordinate local, state, and federal resources to help individuals reduce those risks. The History of the Wexford Conservation District

The Wexford Conservation District was created in 1945 by concerned landowners to sustain and preserve the natural resources of Wexford County.  Through proper stewardship and technical assistance, management of the Wexford County's private and public lands can achieve today's needs and tomorrow's resourcefulness.

The WCD is administrated by a publicly elected Board of Directors and their policies are executed by a well-diversified staff.  The District provides conservation planning and technical assistance for several state and federal land and water management programs, and works with local governmental units such as school, cities, and townships whose decisions impact the Wexford County area.

Each spring and fall, the WCD sells tree seedlings and wildlife shrubs to landowners for soil and water conservation, reforestation and wildlife habitats.

Keeping our groundwater clean, maintaining wildlife habitats, protecting wetlands, controlling soil erosion by establishing windbreaks and reforestation, assuring food supplies by proper farming techniques, and teaching our young people about their role in this stewardship program are just a few of the leadership tasks that the WCD provides.

The Wexford Conservation District works for you and the community.  Volunteer your time today as a supportive member or cooperator to ensure the efforts to conserve the soil and water resources of Wexford County.
